It is an open jar with a number followed by the letter "M," which in English stands for ‘month’. The symbol is referred to as
Period After Opening (PaO), and is a
new system devised
by the European Union's cosmetics regulatory
branch.
The
symbol
is not yet required for cosmetic products
sold
in the USA
or Canada,
but if a cosmetics company
wishes
to sell its
products in
Europe
it’s a mandatory
labeling
requirement.
The PaO
gives
consumers
information on
how long the product can be
safely
used
after it is opened.
Many perishable make-up items are small, that’s why each pack of
Timestrips® for cosmetics comes with a pretty little case where you can adhere your strips and check-in on make-up freshness. Keep it in your make-up bag, or wherever you store your cosmetics. For bottles and jars which stay at home, use the Timestrips® directly on your product’s container for easy freshness reference.
